What is General Dentistry?
General dentistry refers to the basic dental procedures offered by most dental practices. This includes teeth cleaning, oral exams, cavity fillings, extractions, and more. Preventive dentistry is a large part of our general services, as the ultimate goal of dental care is to maintain your dental and oral health. When all goes well, your teeth and gums stay healthy and your teeth stay in place for your lifetime.
Benefits of General Dentistry
General dentistry offers a variety of benefits:
- Keep your natural teeth. Preventive dental care can help keep your natural teeth healthy and in place for your lifetime.
- Maintain your gum health. Keeping your teeth healthy also helps keep your gums healthy, preventing gum disease.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I brush and floss my teeth?
We recommend brushing at least twice a day and flossing once a day. If you are prone to gum disease or cavities, it may be in your best interest to brush and floss your teeth after each meal.
Are X-rays safe?
Dental X-rays are extremely safe. We use digital X-rays because they only use a fraction of the radiation that film X-rays use. As we usually want to avoid taking X-rays on a pregnant patient, please let us know if you are pregnant or suspect that you might be.
What does oral cancer look like?
Abnormal growth or sores in the mouth are some of the warning signs of oral cancer. A normal sore is not typically a concern, but one that doesn’t heal after a week or two may be something to contact us about.
